How does a Sydney-sider end up working at KAN?
Australian native English copywriter, Lara Cole, has had to learn to curb her use of ‘G’day’ in copy since starting work at KAN in Malmö.
So how does a Sydney-sider end up working at KAN? The short answer? My husband is from Malmö and we wanted to discover how it is to live and work in Sweden (who needs long, hot summers anyway)!
What was it like starting at KAN after working most of your career in Australia and England? I’ve loved jobs in the past, but always dreaded Mondays. In Sydney work felt like a separate part of life. I’d put the real me away for the week. But not anymore! I credit KAN’s friendly, inspiring and respectful workplace for that (and maybe the tasty breakfasts). People genuinely care about each other at KAN – which makes work more honest and meaningful.
What have you learnt working at KAN? That the greatest professional buzz comes from working with creative, clever people.
Was there anything you found difficult when starting at KAN? For months I typed ‘ö’ when I wanted a ‘;’ on my Swedish keyboard. I should say the hardest thing has been learning Swedish. Because everyone here kindly speaks English to me and sometimes the kindness has held me back. But I promise my self to be braver and try out my terrible, awkward Swedish more.
